MY FIRST FASHION ESCAPADE
TOPSHOP|TOPMAN SYDNEY OPENING DAY
In my younger days, my parents didn’t spoilt me and my sister in terms of money and luxury, So whenever we want something we had to earn it or we have to save money to buy it ourselves. So shopping clothes and stuff wasn’t such a usual thing for me then but I always had an eye for Music, Style and Fashion and I promised myself to one day buy whatever I want with my own money. And now, having a part time job makes it slowly happen to me and I want to share every bits of my experience to the people who are interested in it.
I was first introduced to TOPSHOP|TOPMAN by my close guy cousin Jay Kim which was on the same situation as me, “You want it, Go strive for it” we shared the same interest in fashion and style but we were so unfortunate to not be spoilt by our parents on what we wanted. He showed me some photos of the clothes and and describe such styles then, I fell in love.. I promised myself to one day have TOPSHOP clothes in my wardrobe and I’ll be satisfied—which I wasn’t, because I’m so chuffed and overwhelmed by these awesome british clothes inside my shopping bag!
One day in July 2012, My sister, a friend and I were walking around the City of Sydney, I was just gobsmacked with a sign of a black walls covering a shop with signs of ‘Now Hiring at www.tstmcareers.com.au’ and the magic word ‘TOPSHOP|TOPMAN’ I was just so excited when I got home immediately looked for it online and tried applying but then I thought about the conflicts that will happen to me during that time because I was in the middle of catching up for school work and a new job, I just had to think twice then I applied eventually but unfortunately with all that stories I wasn’t hired. I was sad of course but it was alright, since I still have a job and I can still enjoy shopping of it anyway. I followed their twitter ‘@topshop_au’ and just looked out for any details about the day of the opening and also some news about it. Then they said they were going to open on October which is ironically my month of birthday so I was really feeling it! Months went to weeks, to days, and with me arriving at the shop 7 am of 04.10.12. I was the 85th shopper of TOPSHOP|TOPMAN Sydney, apparently some people camped out
TS|TM staff were really sweet and friendly, I still feel jealous of not working with them but my happiness was just overwhelming that it didn’t bother me that much. Waiting on the queue in Sydney streets, people randomly taking pictures and media on camera around was nerve wracking! All the excitement and good anxiety were getting in my bones it was pure excitement but I wasn’t showing it since I was a lone shopper because of everybody else having work today (Lucky for me!) During the two hours of waiting which felt like years, TS staff were kind enough to prevent our stomach for grumbling and gave away cupcakes and ginger bread, which was really sweet and the cupcakes were sensational! One of the cupcakes was a RED VELVET my all time favourite! Like no one can actually understand my obsession with it! I was feeling heaven during the moment and I was jus so excited to go in and shop til’ I drop.
As times goes by the line gets longer and longer and then from 2 hours went to 1 1/2 hour to 1 hour to 30, 20, 10, 5 minutes and then we were set to go.
The shop was marvellous and fabulous, media, photographers, and staff welcomed us inside and greeted us which was so nice. The clothes were perfect, It took me a while before I was able to actually choose clothes because everything were just sinking in, I was losing my sense of style and I was forgetting what I like and don’t like I was just looking around for a good 15 minutes, Then I was back on my senses and continued my escapade. I got interviewed by one media man and taken photos by some photographers, which felt so awesome, I won’t deny.
My shopping went on, went up and down, left and right, going around til’ I decided it’s enough for the day, I went and tried them on and decided to buy a bag, collar typed necklace and two tops. I went and paid for them and lucky for students like me, STUDENTS GET 10% DISCOUNT ALL YEAR ROUND! which was another awesome part of course, who doesn’t love discounts? HA HA! plus because of spending more than $100 in one shopping i got a Topshop printed pouch! another awesomeness! So If you live around Sydney, Go and have a look on this awesome brand and see for yourself how great it is and with all the giveaways, you’ll be glad you went.
